The woes of Internet Explorer

corner
Posted on: January 20th, 2013 by Kyle

I have noticed many companies still support IE8 and even IE7 and at times I think that’s quaint and a noble deed for the folks that live in the stone age and enjoy IE but seriously what is the point? I just can’t fathom a company who’s IT man only has IE7 on their machines. If you do not have Chrome, Firefox at least you are at a severe disadvantage in the marketplace and your employees are probably pounding their heads on their desks when pages fail or don’t load correctly.

Now all this is something that needs to change but web development firms that still support IE7 especially (wont name names 😉 ) for their clients are just catering to their own demise in my view. The browser causes such headaches that requiring your employees to develop for it just seems to be a huge waste of time and money.

I don’t want to be all negative in this post so my recommendations are to support the latest browsers and 1 version prior (Firefox, Chrome especially) so you give slow updaters a good rendering of a site as well. In fact I believe Google supports this practice so why not mimic the #1 site on the web? Tulsa has a number of great web design companies and many are adopting these thoughts but I’m not sure if everyone thinks ditching legacy browsers is a good idea…the ones with dust in their face!
